Week of March 30- April 3

Greetings!!

It's Battle Book Time!! Your students have been challenged to read 18 award winning novels since the beginning of the year. This Thursday, the students will be tested on their knowledge from these books. The top three students will be placed on our class battle team and compete against the other fourth grade classes. After the Class Battle, the school will form a school team to compete against other teams. Study those flash cards and keep reading!!

Writing: We have been using the laptops to type our final copy of " The Baby Food Jar Essay". We should begin printing them on Tueday and Wednesday and by the end of the week, we should be published!! How awesome to see young authors at work!!

4 more days until Spring Break. Woo Hoo!!!

Week of March 23-30

Greeting Class and Parents!!
Two more weeks until Spring Break!! I know we all need a break but we have some amazing work to produce! Hang in there with me!!

Reading: Battle Book Time!! All fourth graders in Hillsborough county have a Battle Book competition as soon as we get back from break. Students will take a test based on their knowledge from the 18 books selected by the county. Students have made flash cards so study with them!!
We will be finishing "Phineas L.MacGuire...Erupts" and will be starting a new Battle Book on Wednesday.

Writing: We are in the third stage of the Writing Process...Revision. I must say this is the part that takes the longest! Hopefully, by Wednesday the students can start using laptops and typing their papers.

No Spelling this week!!

Week of March 16- 20

FCAT is over!!! Learning and growing is never over!!

In Reading this week, we are going to be revisiting the reaing skill of Main Idea and details. As the weather gets warmer, the fiction story we will be reading is " Let it snow!". We will continue to read the battle book of " Phineas L. MacGuire". Our reading goal for this last nine weeks is two books per week, two RP tests, two vocabulary tests and lastly one book response. This is a challenging goal but YOU can do it!!

In Writing, we will be in the revision part of the writing process. We will take out our "Stuck inside a baby food jar" essays and start re-writing. We will be using laptops to type and print our papers after we edit and then we will publish!! Woo hoo!!

I'm so excited for another week to be your teacher!! Come ready to learn and participate!!

Week of January 26-30

Hello Class!!
Another exciting week of learning is before us!

Special Events: Picture Day is on Wednesday. Looking forward to Valentine's Day, we need you to bring an empty rectangular tissue box for valentine's. So start blowing your nose!!

Reading: We are reading a non-fiction passage about coral reefs focusing on the skill of compare and contrast. We will be using a venn diagram to help us plot information as we read. Remember your reading goal of two books per week: one fiction, one non-fiction and two AR tests.

Writing: Two weeks left before we shine on our Florida Writes!! We have been talking about voice or "personality" when we write. We want our writing to be a reflection of who we are.

Week of January 20-23

Hello Class!!
I hope you had a wonderful day off of school in rememberance of MLK!!

We only have 3 Weeks until our Florida Writes!! It is time we take what we have learned and apply it to our writing!!

This week at a glance:
In our writing, we will look at transition words, voice and how to score our writing.

In Reading, we have a vocabulary and comprehension quiz on Wednesday. The vocabulary words are: obedience, risks, appreciated, desperate, bluffing, endured, misunderstood, and neglected. The comprehension quiz will be based on Cause and Effect.
The new skill we will look at this week is Compare/Contrast.
